"Probably a little too much for a non-power user" 2010-07-22
By Cindy Brock (Georgia, USA)
This was probably too big of a jump for me to make from PaintShopPro 6 to X3. While I never did maximize my use of the product (I'm a writer, not a graphic designer), I think that this just has way too many things for my needs. WITH THAT SAID, I am still giving this 5 stars because I do think it's easier to use than PhotoShop. If you're a PaintShopPro power user, this is absolutely going to be a nice upgrade for you.

"I wanted to like it more" 2010-07-15
By ThatPoshGirl (Reno, NV)
I used to be a Paint Shop Pro fanatic, so I really wanted to like this. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. The program is unstable. It is constantly crashing and taking my work with it. The tools are not well designed, either. They don't feel intuitive, and even with the on screen tutorial I sometimes feel like I am working against them. I have used Adobe Illustrator without any problems. In general, I just don't think this is worth the money.

 "corel draw rocks!" 2010-05-10
By G. Leverett
I recently purchased version X4. I also use Photoshop CS2, Microsoft Publisher, and other design software. I use these programs to do design & graphics for my home business. I'm an 'intermittent' user, meaning I don't do graphics stuff day in & day out, just as it's needed (sometimes nightly, other times I'll go months).

I picked up Corel Draw X4, and just love it. I bought version X4 because with the recent release of X5, copies of version X4 have been discounted way down so the price is right.

As an intermittent user I don't have all the features of my design software memorized, and I usually up thumbing through help files to get me where I need to go. I've had Corel Draw for about a week and have been using it nightly. Two nights ago, while editing a photo, I went to Photoshop out of familiarity(it's been my main app for a few years) . It took me about an hour to get the picture buttoned up, most of that time was spent looking up help files how to do what I needed. Just out of curiosity, I decided to try the same task in Corel Draw/ Photo Paint (the photo editor that comes bundled with Corel Draw) and it took about 5 minutes. The difference? their help files are much easier to use, better laid out, and more intuitive.

The end result was the same with both pictures; but the Corel version took much less time and was fairly painless. I'm finding this to be the case with the main application as well - Corel Draw. The help options are easily accessible, abundant, and intuitive. It's also very powerful; I'm having fun with all the new editing features this suite offers. Corel Draw can also read my CAD files for my CNC work (I'm a woodworker). This is a HUGE plus.

Don't get me wrong, Photoshop is a great program, powerful and all that; but so is CorelDraw. And it's much easier to navigate.

This is a great product for less than 1/3 the cost of the full version. Especially since you can put it on three computers. It doesn't have all the graphics and clip art of the full version, but has enough to learn with. Great product and a great price. Highly recommended.

"Corel Photo and Video X3 bundle" 2010-06-20
By Titus Bontea
I have worked with the previous trial version and the X3 is much faster. It is a complex piece of software and some learning curve is unavoidable. You can do as little or as much your creative talents allows you too. I did have some problems with the video editing when the "canned" version had overlapped transitions I did not insert. I cannot tell if was the software or the good ol Microsoft windows problem but the corrected video rendered to where I wanted quickly. For the photo part of the bundle, it is amazing the number of file formats it can handle. I had some old Commodore Amiga (IFF) files which loaded and edited nicely.
More then likely Corel would come up with X4 but I fail as yet to see what further improvement can be made. This software will last you quite a while. I did not work with the Blue Ray part as I am not yet set for it. Although it is the hand behind the brush that creates a masterpiece, never the less X3 is a top of the line brush. I did not like the must have help menu being on line. Hopefully some free upgrade will be forthcoming on that feature.

The box said it is windows 7 compatible but the program wouldn't even finish installing on my computer. I switched to Cyberlink's Power Director 8 and it appears to work flawlessly (so far).

 "Missing Advertised Software" 2010-07-13
By James H. Patterson
The front of the package which you see on Amazon.com indicates that there is a tracing program available (bitmap to vector conversion). This is stated even more clearly on the rear of the package which you receive (Corel Power Trace X5). I do not believe it is included. If it is, I sure could not find it on the DVD supplied, nor on the installation menu. I did not upgrade Corel Draw in the last version, and I was hoping that this component was available and was improved over earlier versions. If tracing (or the ability to try it) to produce vector graphics is important to you, I do not believe I would purchase this product. In the short time I had the product, I tried the node editing tool on an old figure, and it really seemed to do a nice job. But I really wanted to try their tracing product for necessary bitmap conversion to vector graphics.

"Do NOT buy this product!" 2010-07-18
By Rita
I bought this product from Corel, because I have a newborn, and I had gotten a video camera to record his growing up. My father has used Corel Products in the past (CorelDraw, Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo), so we trusted Corel.
This product is a piece of junk!!! It is almost impossible to figure out the controls and menus, the software locks up every few minutes, and if you use the wizard, you have to add ALL the video clips before you can continue with the wizard!! That is impossible, because the software will LOCK UP before you get all the clips in there. My father worked for 3+ hours, trimming video clips to make a movie, and during loading of a clip, the software froze (for about the 4th or 5th time that day) and all the editing was LOST. Do NOT waste your money on this product - from what I can see, Corel bought the Ulead company that made the product, and just marketed it. When you go to support, yes, there are downloads, but no way to even send Corel an email about this TERRIBLE product. You have to sign up (and pay) for support.
In case you are thinking that we just didn't know how to use a video editor, my father is a Computer and Web professional, with a great deal of image editing experience. Even he couldn't make this product work. Shame on you, Corel!!!
