After spending $120 a year buying a new office chair, somehow hoping they would be of a decent quality, i can finally say this is it. Every year they are flimsy, poorly made plastic pieces of rubbish that degrade and pop apart after a few months. This chair was so heavy in box, that when it arrived i had to take the parts out to get it up the stairs. Very sturdy. Very comfortable. Definitely for tall people. Im 6'7" and its great. Highly recommended.

I consider Jim Butcher as a "big name" in the fantasy genre, from his Dresden files and overall positive views regarding all his work. After reading other big names like Hobb, Jordan, Martin, and so forth. I have similar expectations for Butcher's Codex Alter series from all the positive reviews. From reading the Dresden Files, I expected some clever, good writing, entertaining, etc. The first few chapters in Furies of Calderon were intriguing and different. I was entertained and liked the characters. The Furies were cool. However, as I read on, I found the characters and plot to be too predictable, contrived, and tiring. After the middle of the book, I found myself putting it down and forgetting where I put it. Had to push myself to finish it and even had to skip paragraphs and pages. Lucky for me, I borrowed this book from the library.
If I had to give a summary of this book, the main plot would be so boring and common. Let's see, a boy without special powers gets involved in these chain of events that would save his people. The other characters are just as predictable. A royal follower of crown vs. disenchanted one (they try to outdo and outguess each other-lets not forget this struggle is between student and teacher.) A totally different kind of people/society that others don't understand vs. regular humans (don't forget the discrimination factors) The just leader/lord vs typical evil leader (of course his one dimensional character that can't even get along with his own son and loves to rape and torture.) I can go on. I know that all fantasy has similar elements therefore, they are in the that same genre. I wonder if this book would receive the same positive reviews under another name.
I probably will borrow the second one in the series just to see the quality of writing and where the story goes. I recall I was not over-enthusiastic with Wheel of Time's first book which turns out to be a favorite.

A very heavy and sturdy chair. I weigh around 340 and I got tired of breaking pedestrian chairs over the years. I can lean back on this one and not have to worry. There is a tiny bit of play in the chair, but I wouldn't call it a "wobble." Nothing to worry about. For the chair to not have any play, I'm sure it would have to be quite a bit heavier and more expensive than it is. It's more than adequate.

I am becoming a fan of this series more and more. So far, this is my favorite book in the Codex Alera series. Although it took me a while to get into it, the last half of the book is gripping.
I'm at the point in the series where I feel like I "know" the characters as real people and actually care what happens to them. With "Captain's Fury", major turning points are made not only with the characters, but also with the relationships between them. I would like to give examples, but I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone.
Looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Princeps' Fury.

I'm a late comer to the writing of this incredibly talented man. I was in the bookstore searching for a new series to occupy my summer when a clerk shoved the first book into my hands. God bless that guy! Rarely have I been so fully engrossed in a tale and characters as much as I have with Alera. I loved them all and am saddened by the end of the series. I will miss the characters, the world and the story that Mr. Butcher has given us. Still, better a hand full of diamonds then a room full of gravel. I guess all that's left is to start book 1 of the Dresden Files.

As the distributor was local, I received it 24 hours after I ordered it. I am normally "assembly challenged" but the assembly instructions where clear and straightforward and managed to have my chair ready in around 15-20 minutes. Man, it's comfortable! It may not be real leather but it is as close to the real thing as possible. It is very smooth in its swivel and tilt. It is a deep chair, probably more suitable to taller people. I'm 5'8" and I just got a foot stool to make sure to tough the ground when I am sitting back.

Just received this chair to use at computer. Was using just a folding chair-100% improvement. Feels great on back, love all aspects. Easy to put together. Highly recommend.

I purchased this for my husband who loves his CD/DVD's but can not for the life of him put them away and they wind up getting scratched. He had disks that were not playable until the Aleratec buffed and cleaned them. It is a process, and it takes time, but it's easy, inexpensive, and it works.
